Examination Policies
Professional examinations shall be conducted from time to time for those who qualify for such examinations. The following examination structure has been approved by the Governing Council of the Institute. There are four levels of the examination, each consisting of five papers. The levels are:
- Foundation
- Professional Level 1
- Professional Level 2
- Professional Level 3
Examination Town
Examinations shall take place in the capital towns of each state including Abuja. However, where the numbers of registered candidates fall short of the registered number for each examination centre, arrangement shall be made for candidates to sit for the examination in the nearest town.

Examination fees:
Candidates shall be charged appropriate fees for examination form, each level of the examination and referrals. Details are available at the Institute’s Secretariat. It must be noted that such fees are subject to reviews from time to time by the Council.
Registration deadline:
Registration for April examination closes on 28th February, while registration for October examination closes on 31st August.
Referral:
Candidates with marginal failures in the maximum of two papers may be referred and such referred papers must be passed at once in the next two examination diets of the Institute. Failure to achieve this, such referrals shall lapse at the end of the period, which will mean that all the papers in that level will have to be repeated in the third examination diet after the referrals were made.
Change of examination centre:
Any change of examination centre must be received at the Institute at least one month before the examination concerned. That is, 21st March for April examination and 21st September for that of October.
Deferment of examination:
A candidate’s entry for an examination may be deferred if such a request is received at least three weeks before the date of such examination. Such a request may be supported by a genuine certificate of ill health and which must be approved by the examination Council. For such a case, the candidate will need to obtain another examination form in the diet in which he/she intends to sit for the examination but 50% of the fees already paid for that level will be forfeited to cover administrative expenses, which the Institute must have incurred.
